"Being a foreigner living in France myself, I wanted to set this film in the outsider realm that you feel when living in a foreign country. I think it gives a less cluttered background on which to set a problem and a character while at the same time giving a bit more urgency and focus to the problems portrayed. The locations add to this as well. When you don't have a lot of options, choices become more important."

Dorénavant was filmed with a largely international cast and crew of young film makers.
While a script was prepared, director Joseph Case used it mostly as an overall guide and let the actors improvise much of the time to find the dialog they felt to be natural for the situations. This went well with the long takes Case wanted to use and provided new ideas on each take while providing the naturalness Case was seeking.
